Tango-A and Tango-L are internet mailing lists devoted exclusively to Argentine tango. Tango-A is
for announcements about tango events, or of products (CDs, videotapes, shoes, etc.) of
interest to tango dancers, or for questions about events/dances in a given location
(“Are there any dances in Albuquerque next week?”, etc.) Tango-L is a discussion list for
subjects related to Argentine tango: technical dance issues, social customs, teaching methods,
music, etc. Anyone with an interest in tango is welcome to join either or both lists.
To subscribe, send an email message to:
listserv@mitvma.mit.edu
containing either or both of the lines in the body of the message: subscribe tango—a firstname
lastname subscribe tango—l firstname lastname Where firstname and lastname are replaced
by your name. The subject line of the message is ignored; it can be left blank. You'll get back
a confirmation request message.
The software that handles the grunt work of distributing the list
(the “listserver” software) is conservative; it wants to be sure that you really did intend to
subscribe. There will be very straightforward directions in that confirmation request message on
how to confirm your subscription. By default, you will receive each message that is sent to the
list shortly after that message is received by the listserver. If you prefer to receive a
digest once per day, containing all of the posts to that list for the past 24 hours, send
another email to:
listserv@mitvma.mit.edu
containing the line(s): set tango—a digest set tango—l digest Traffic on both lists
is usually light. From June through August it seldom reaches 10 messages
a day, and sometimes 2 or 3 days will pass with no messages. During the busiest months,
the two lists combined can sometimes distribute 20 to 30 posts per day.
